25.11.10 Bowling Fundraiser in Cork for KODA The group hopes to run a number of events for Deaf parents and their hearing kids. The 1st event they are holding will be a Bowling Fundraiser. This will be held on the 27th of November in the Planet Entertainment Centre in Blackpool, Cork. It costs €60 for a team of four. For more information »

21.10.10 Opportunity to work with deaf in Slovakia Voluntary work for a period of 6 or 12 months. Training, accommodation, flights and food all paid for, they even get a bit of pocket money too to spend on their own things. You must be between 18 and 25 to participate in this programme. 07.10.10 Dublin Deaf Scout Leader Wanted The 191st Dublin Deaf Scout Group is looking for volunteers to lend a hand. Volunteers will help with the running of the group, activities, games and trips. Volunteers will also get the chance to go on camping trips. Meetings are held every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm in Drumcondra, Dublin. More »

30.09.10 World Federation of the Deaf WFD congress will be held in Durban South Africa from the 18th to the 24th of July 2011. WFD will organise an International Deaf Youth Camp from the 6th -14th July 2011 in Durban. World Association of Sign Language Interpreters will also hold its international conference in Durban from the 14-16 July 2011. More »

20.05.10 BSc in Deaf Studies Bristol University threatened withdrawal of BSc in Deaf Studies. According to University authorities, the Degree programme is expensive and does not fit in with faculty priorities. If the Degree closes approx. 75% of CDS Bristol staff will lose their jobs, including most Deaf staff. This would have a disastrous impact on Deaf and hearing people in many ways. 22.04.10 Flight Cancellations - What Are Your Rights? It has been reported that millions of passengers have been affected by the recent flight cancellations in Europe. It is highly likely that Deaf and hard of hearing passengers have been affected too. Many of these people may not have been able to access information on their rights if the flights have been affected. There is a European Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004 that outlines your rights if flights are cancelled. More »

25.03.10 Captioning all english videos on youtube Google recently announced an ambitious plan to automatically add computer generated captioning to all English videos on youtube. This will be a huge benefit to Deaf and hard of hearing people and will provide millions of hours of speech accessible to search engines for people doing research. More »

18.03.10 Cutbacks to Kerry Deaf Resource Centre The Kerry Deaf Resource Centre is looking for your support. Our service has been in operation for the past 11 years. During this time, we have been campaigning for increased funding to enable us provide services to the Deaf and hard of hearing community. We urgently need your support. We urge you to write to your local TD and call for a stop to our funding cuts. We would also encourage you to demand funding increases and not funding cuts. More »
