15.10.12 Garda vetting for staff and volunteers. Garda Vetting for all full/part-time staff and volunteers. Garda Vetting is particularly important to those that have access to children and/or vulnerable adults. This vetting is mandatory for staff and to individuals that volunteer with us on an on-going basis with our service. For more information »

8.10.12 CODA research. This survey will give a picture of how young CODA's can be encouraged to pursue a career as sign language interpreters, and help interpreter educators to identify the training needs for CODA's. The researchers are also keen to hear from Deaf people with Deaf parents as they often take on this type of brokering role. For more information »

1.10.12 EFSLI autumn school "Deaf interpreters in a team". Registration for the European Forum of Sign Language Interpreters Autumn School is now open. The training will take place in London from the 23rd-25th of November. Online registration and detailed information is available. »

24.9.12 Student fellowship with ECML pro-signs project. A short-term Fellowship is being offered by ECML relating to the PRO-Signs Project. The PRO-Signs project team are seeking a Fellow for an exciting European Committee on Modern Languages project. 10.9.12 Street collection - volunteers required. We will hold a fundraising Street Collection in Castleisland on the 14th of September. Volunteers are required from 9am-6pm. 3.9.12 Digital switchover small grant scheme On 24th October television is changing from analogue to digital. On this date the analogue signals will be switched off and digital television will remain. Saorview is the only free digital service. If you have a subscription with Sky or UPC or other provider, your television service will not be affected. The awards are for those who have made a significant and important contribution to their society, community, workplace, family or through sports. 23.4.12 Launch of sharing the journey. Sharing the Journey is a support network for parents with deaf/hard of hearing kids. They will be officially launching their service on the 10th of May. It will be held in The Oak Room, Dublin Mansion House from 5–7pm. For more information »

23.4.12 Launch of new book - Irish Sign Language, a congnitive linguistic approach. The book describes the social and historical background of this signed language and places Irish Sign Language in a world context. 23.4.12 Sign Language Association of Ireland (SLAI) meeting SLAI will hold an Open Forum on Saturday 9th June in Dublin Deaf Association, Drumcondra Road, Dublin 9.
